Building a Sustainable Indo-Pacific

A densely populated region at varied economic development stages, disproportionately vulnerable to climate change and increasing natural hazards, the Indo-Pacific's need for sustainable development remains pressing, and room for innovative thinking is equally increasing.

Against this backdrop, the upcoming issue of the Indo-Pacific Review centres around the theme "Building a Sustainable Indo-Pacific". Four experts will discuss the theme of the journal and share their insights on approaches to climate governance in the region.

This will be followed by an open discussion and Q&A with the online participants. The discussion will be moderated by Ms Rushali Saha.

The discussion focuses on India's attempts to boost its trade from outside international major trade agreements like RCEP and CPTPP, which have brought a myriad of economies together. As Washington and Beijing vie for influence in the capitals of the Indo-Pacific, India seems to be trying to garner influence from outside the largest trade agreements ever signed. Some of the key questions addressed are: How effective has the Act East Policy been in boosting economic links between India and the region? What challenges does India face in boosting its economic reach in critical areas across the Indian Ocean? What are the consequences of staying out of CPTPP and RCEP?
