  • Understanding the Indo-Pacific: Past, Present, and Future

"The Indo-Pacific—far beyond a term, and more than a “geopolitical construct”, as some might argue—is emerging as the epicentre of global conversations about power, security, and geoeconomics." "Stretching across vast, interconnected waters—from Africa’s eastern shores to the western Pacific—the Indo-Pacific is a region rich in natural resources, with crucial sea lanes, strategic choke points, and vital underwater cables. It has become not only a pivotal center for global trade and security but also a hotspot of geopolitical rivalry, emerging as one of the most consequential regions shaping 21st-century geopolitics." "This is why the Indo-Pacific matters more than ever, and this course is your guide to understanding the region and exploring how it’s reshaping our world." Developed by the Centre for East Asian Studies (CEAS), Christ (deemed to be university) in collaboration with the Council for Strategic and Defense Research (CSDR). This course is built on the collective expertise of leading scholars from the Indo-Pacific Circle (IPC). During a workshop held between March 11-13, 2024, at Christ University, 18 experts from across the region came together to curate a curriculum that brings together diverse perspectives, to create a Regional Pedagogy for the Indo-Pacific. “Understanding the Indo-Pacific: Past, Present, and Future” course offers a comprehensive, multi-dimensional study of the region's complexities. Focusing on its role in shaping global geopolitics, security, and economic growth. It delves into the region’s geopolitical competition, examining the strategic importance, geo-poltical contestations between global powers, and the dynamic interactions between countries.
